EPHEMERAL ENVIRONMENTAL INSTALLATIONS – TOWNSVILLE, 2001

WHITE WIND RED WIND, TOWNSVILLE, 2001

Fishing line and cotton fibre
2- part installation, each 200 x 350 x 25cm
Nature and culture inform this site-specific work which makes reference to the predominance of hot and cool winds, the red presence of Townsville’s Castle Rock, the local fishing culture and issues of ecological awareness.
Selected for inclusion Strand Ephemera, I was interested to make a site-specific and ephemeral work.  It came easily to me as I had spent the previous year exploring my new environment on the Coral Sea by doing just this (see Environmental Installations)  This was my first experience of working in the public domain.
As this was very labour-intensive work to install within the limited period, the Perc Tucker Regional Gallery provided me with a small team of assistants.
