The miniature scrolls, referencing an earlier form in the evolution of the book, represent book ‘pages’, the canoe- shaped receptacle, also symbolic of a journey, its ‘cover’.
The title Book of Letters, a pun on the meaning of the word ‘letter’, consists of correspondence accumulated by my late father and his father before him over 135years, written in several languages and scripts and traversing some twenty countries. It is a repository of memory, love, genealogy, history, geography, language and internationalism.
Meticulously chosen from amongst hundreds of letters & postcards for colour, texture & font variation, each scroll, upon close investigation, reveals its own story.
