Early Work: Late 1970s to Early 1980s

My first major exhibition held at Reconnaissance, Melbourne in 1989 comprising twenty-six works on paper and twelve oils paintings inspired by my new life in rural sub-tropical NSW.
THE FARM YEARS: MOUNTAINSCAPES AND GARDENSCAPES, 1983-1986

I love travelling, am rather obsessive about documenting the experience so write extensive travel journals, and take many photographs. I found I could draw on top of photographs taken with my ipad. I love the luminescent effect of working on the screen. This practise then extended to working with images other than travel photographs.

I have always loved working in mixed media. Back in the day it mostly involved the use of pastels and oil crayon, often incorporating collage. Later, other elements crept in – acrylics and watercolours, photocopy images, acetate, fabric, threads, stitching. In 90’s I expanded to working on top of maps, postcards and photographs.
