I am drawn to the notion of giving a second life to discarded materials, in this case plastic beach detritus collected on long walks, as well as the notion of caring for the environment, Keep Our Beaches Clean.
Such items are washed up after a weather event or northerly winds. Having used plastic and other beach detritus in making small-scale sculptures, I am now recycling these materials onto canvasses. I like to intervene as little as possible. With the exception of occasional tearing or breaking, the pieces are as found.
In a sense, I view these as drawings.
